The Load/Unload Response Ratio (LURR) method is proposed for short-to-intermediate-term earthquake prediction [Yin, X.C., Chen, X.Z., Song, Z.P., Yin, C., 1995. A New Approach to Earthquake Prediction — The Load/Unload Response Ratio (LURR) Theory, Pure Appl. Geophys., 145, 701–715]. This method is based on measuring the ratio between Benioff strains released during the time periods of loading and unloading, corresponding to the Coulomb Failure Stress change induced by Earth tides on optimally oriented faults. According to the method, the LURR time series usually climb to an anomalously high peak prior to occurrence of a large earthquake. Previous studies have indicated that the size of critical seismogenic region selected for LURR measurements has great influence on the evaluation of LURR. In this study, we replace the circular region usually adopted in LURR practice with an area within which the tectonic stress change would mostly affect the Coulomb stress on a potential seismogenic fault of a future event. The Coulomb stress change before a hypothetical earthquake is calculated based on a simple back-slip dislocation model of the event. This new algorithm, by combining the LURR method with our choice of identified area with increased Coulomb stress, is devised to improve the sensitivity of LURR to measure criticality of stress accumulation before a large earthquake. Retrospective tests of this algorithm on four large earthquakes occurred in California over the last two decades show remarkable enhancement of the LURR precursory anomalies. For some strong events of lesser magnitudes occurred in the same neighborhoods and during the same time periods, significant anomalies are found if circular areas are used, and are not found if increased Coulomb stress areas are used for LURR data selection. The unique feature of this algorithm may provide stronger constraints on forecasts of the size and location of future large events. 相似文献

The giant Bayan Obo REE–Nb–Fe deposit consists of replacement bodies hosted in dolomite marble made up of magnetite, REE fluorocarbonates, fluorite, aegirine, amphibole, calcite and barite. Two or three phase CO2-rich, three phase hypersaline liquid–vapor–solid, and two phase liquid-rich inclusions have been recognized in mineralized fluorite and quartz samples. Microthermometry measurements indicate that the carbonic phase in CO2-rich inclusions is nearly pure CO2. Fluids involving in REE–Nb–Fe mineralization at Bayan Obo might be mainly of H2O–CO2–NaCl–(F–REE) system. Coexistences of brine inclusions and CO2-rich inclusions with similar homogenization temperatures give evidence that immiscibility happened during REE mineralization. An unmixing of an original H2O–CO2–NaCl fluid probably derived from carbonatitic magma. The presence of REE-carbonates as an abundant solid in fluid inclusions shows that the original ore-forming fluids are very rich in REE, and therefore, have the potential to produce economic REE ores at Bayan Obo. 相似文献

Middle Neoproterozoic carbonates are found in the western part of Shandong Pennisula (i.e., the Jiaobei terrane) that is located in the northwestern part of the Sulu orogen in east-central China. For the first time, a successful SHRIMP U–Pb dating, coupled with CL imaging, was conducted on two samples of impure marble from the Fenzishan Group in this tectonic unit. The results yield consistent ages of 786 ± 67 and 240 ± 44 Ma for igneous and metamorphic zircons, respectively. Positive δ13C values as high as +5.6‰ are measured for both pure and impure marbles, consistent not only with the worldwide Neoproterozoic limestones in connection with the Sturtian ice-age, but also with the marbles associated with UHP metamorphic eclogites in the Dabie orogen. O isotope fractionation between calcite and garnet from one sample gave a temperature of 680 °C, pointing to upper amphibolite-facies metamorphic conditions. These results indicate that protolith of the marbles is a kind of limestone that was synchronously deposited with volcaniclastic rocks in the mid-Neoproterozoic rift basin of continental margin. Like the UHP metamorphic rocks in the Dabie-Sulu orogenic belt, both mid-Neoproterozoic magmatism and Triassic metamorphism are recorded in the impure marbles. Therefore, protolith of the impure marbles corresponds to the sedimentary limestone of rift basin developed during the mid-Neoproterozoic breakup of supercontinent Rodinia, but it was the sedimentary cover along the northern margin of the South China Block prior to its Triassic subduction. The occurrence of the mid-Neoproterozoic limestone with the Triassic metamorphism in the southern margin of the North China Block thus indicates tectonic overthrust by a crustal detachment between the sedimentary cover and the Precambrian basement during the continent subduction. As a result, the marbles in affinity to the South China Block were northward thrusted over the basement of the North China Block. 相似文献

The evolution of the basement of southern Madagascar north and south of the Ranotsara shear zone was investigated using (U + Th)/Pb electron probe monazite age dating in combination with petrographic constraints. Several monazite grains show a stepwise progression of younger ages towards the rim indicating partial and complete resetting during tectonic, metamorphic and/or fluid events. The oldest ages, ranging from 630–2400 Ma, occur relatively rare in relic cores. A first, clear age-population is dated at 550–560 Ma. Most ages fall in two populations at 420–460 and 490–500 Ma, which in some samples overlap in error. We interprete these ages as dating low-pressure and high-temperature metamorphism. We have also clear evidence for Carboniferous (300–310 Ma) monazite overgrowth rims, which can not directly be related to macroscopic structures or metamorphic parageneses. In combination with literature data, we propose that the observed monazite age populations are related to Gondwana amalgamation and subsequent rifting events during the break up of Gondwana. Our study confirms that only the electron or ion microprobe yields sufficient spatial resolution to date individual shells of multiple zoned monazites in the polymetamorphic basement of Madagascar. 相似文献

Some hydrocarbons occluded inside asphaltene structures can be considered to be “original oil”, and are very important especially for severely post-altered crude oil in related geochemical studies such as oil/oil, oil/source correlation. The use of oxidising reagents could properly release these occluded hydrocarbons, and make possible direct study of these compounds without interference from the segments chemically bonded to the asphaltene molecule. A combined study of chronometric dating and oxygen isotope analysis for minerals from vein and host eclogite as well as regional country-rock gneiss in the Dabie orogen provides a direct constraint on timing of fluid flow in this orogen formed by continental collision. Oxygen isotope ratios of vein minerals are significantly lower than those of the host eclogite, but comparable with those of the regional gneiss. This suggests the veining fluid came from the regional gneiss (i.e. exhumed slab itself) rather than the host eclogite. While zircon U–Pb and phengite Ar–Ar dating yields ages of 214 to 222 Ma for the eclogite and gneiss, the vein gives a quartz–muscovite Rb–Sr isochron age of 181 Ma and a muscovite K–Ar age of 179 Ma. Thus the veining postdates the Triassic ultrahigh pressure metamorphic event, witnessing postcollisional fluid flow after the orogenic cycle of continental collision. 相似文献

Abstract. Denggezhuang gold deposit is an epithermal gold‐quartz vein deposit in northern Muru gold belt, eastern Shandong, China. The deposit occurs in the NNE‐striking faults within the Mesozoic granite. The deposit consists of four major veins with a general NNE‐strike. Based on crosscutting relationships and mineral parageneses, the veins appear to have been formed during the same mineralization epochs, and are further divided into three stages: (1) massive barren quartz veins; (2) quartz‐sulfides veins; (3) late, pure quartz or calcite veinlets. Most gold mineralization is associated with the second stage. The early stage is characterized by quartz, and small amounts of ore minerals (pyrite), the second stage is characterized by large amounts of ore minerals. Fluid inclusions in vein quartz contain C‐H‐O fluids of variable compositions. Three main types of fluid inclusions are recognized at room temperature: type I, two‐phase, aqueous vapor and an aqueous liquid phase (L+V); type II, aqueous‐carbonic inclusions, a CC2‐liquid with/without vapor and aqueous liquid (LCO2+VCC2+Laq.); type III, mono‐phase aqueous liquid (Laq.). Data from fluid inclusion distribution, microthermometry, and gas analysis indicate that fluids associated with Au mineralized quartz veins (stage 2) have moderate salinity ranging from 1.91 to 16.43 wt% NaCl equivalent (modeled salinity around 8–10 wt% NaCl equiv.). These veins formatted at temperatures from 80d? to 280d?C. Fluids associated with barren quartz veins (stage 3) have a low salinity of about 1.91 to 2.57 wt% NaCl equivalent and lower temperature. There is evidence of fluid immiscibility and boiling in ore‐forming stages. Stable isotope analyses of quartz indicate that the veins were deposited by waters with δO and δD values ranging from those of magmatic water to typical meteoric water. The gold metallogenesis of Muru gold belt has no relationship with the granite, and formed during the late stage of the crust thinning of North China. 相似文献

Both adakitic and shoshonitic igneous rocks in the Luzong area, Anhui Province, eastern China are associated with Cretaceous Cu–Au mineralization. The Shaxi quartz diorite porphyrites exhibit adakite-like geochemical features, such as light rare earth element (LREE) enrichment, heavy REE (HREE) depletion, high Al2O3, MgO, Sr, Sr / Y and La / Yb values, and low Y and Yb contents. They have low εNd(t) values (− 3.46 to − 6.28) and high (87Sr / 86Sr)i ratios (0.7051–0.7057). Sensitive High-Resolution Ion Microprobe (SHRIMP) zircon analyses indicate a crystallization age of 136 ± 3 Ma for the adakitic rocks. Most volcanic rocks and the majority of monzonites and syenites in the Luzong area are K-rich (or shoshonitic) and were also produced during the Cretaceous (140–125 Ma). They are enriched in LREE and large-ion lithophile elements, and depleted in Ti, and Nb and Ba and exhibit relatively lower εNd(t) values ranging from − 4.65 to − 7.03 and relatively higher (87Sr / 86Sr)i ratios varying between 0.7057 and 0.7062. The shoshonitic and adakitic rocks in the Luzong area have similar Pb isotopic compositions (206Pb / 204Pb = 17.90–18.83, 207Pb / 204Pb = 15.45–15.62 and 208Pb / 204Pb = 38.07–38.80). Geological data from the Luzong area suggest that the Cretaceous igneous rocks are distributed along NE fault zones (e.g., Tanlu and Yangtze River fault zones) in eastern China and were likely formed in an extensional setting within the Yangtze Block. The Shaxi adakitic rocks were probably derived by the partial melting of delaminated lower crust at pressures equivalent to crustal thickness of > 50 km (i.e., 1.5 GPa), possibly leaving rutile-bearing eclogitic residue. The shoshonitic magmas, in contrast, originated mainly from an enriched mantle metasomatized by subducted oceanic sediments. They underwent early high-pressure (> 1.5 GPa) fractional crystallization at the boundary between thickened (> 50 km) lower crust and lithospheric mantle and late low-pressure (< 1.5 GPa) fractional crystallization in the shallow (< 50 km) crust. The adakitic and shoshonitic rocks appear to be linked to an intra-continental extensional setting where partial melting of enriched mantle and delaminated lower crust was probably controlled by lithospheric thinning and upwelling of hot asthenosphere along NE fault zones (e.g., Tanlu and Yangtze River fault zones) in eastern China.
